FRAP, which stands for ‘Fabrique Rurale d’Alcool à Partager’ (meaning Rural Distillery to Share), is an artisanal distillery based in Planzolles, in the Monts d’Ardèche. Its spirits are made from organic or wild-harvested ingredients, using copper stills heated with wood sourced from the land surrounding the distillery. The distillery holds the Nature & Progrès certification.
Wine-based aperitifs (ABV) can be made from red, white or rosé wine. These aperitifs are flavoured with infusions of herbs, roots, flowers, fruit or fruit peel, to which neutral spirit, sugar or caramel are then added.
More specifically, vermouth is a wine-based aperitif, fortified by the addition of mistella, brandy or liqueur. It is drunk neat and is used in many cocktails. Indeed, when added to a spirit of 40°, it helps to lower the alcohol content of the mixture. The sugar in vermouth sweetens the mixture whilst adding aromatic notes, resulting in a more complex cocktail.
